# Dotted-Line Reporting

A reporting relationship in which an individual’s specific expertise is needed by his “[dotted line](/adizes/wiki/dotted-line.md)” supervisor. The individual reporting via the dotted line also reports somewhere else in the organization, as indicated via a solid line.
